Ahead is the very first intersection just past Bến Xe Miền Đông. A real big traffic jam! I did not beleive it because in this type of foot and bicycle traffic....how could you jam up a big intersection like that? As for myself, I found out that it was jammed so bad that I could not move my feet!
At first, I was enthusiastic in trying to make it across the intersection on foot as I felt like it shouldn't be that hard...just mainly foot traffic and I carried no baggage. When I joined the crowd....my feet were stuck!!! I felt a little panic but managed to moved my feet a little...as I tried to keep my standing position more comfortable since I was not able to move any inches in any direction.
So, in the jammed mass of bodies....people just stood there and looked at each other....smiles, talks, vague complaints in the air....and no body could move.
One thing that I could never forget was that when I stood there, helpless and got separated from my Dad who knew not to get in there to begin with since he was a local. One young guy in front of me had his bicycle along....and his bike was quite a burden on the ground if he has to move inch by inch and had to press the bike and make way forward. At a moment of clever thought, he picked up the bike with both of his hands and raised it high above his head in the crowd. Then he started pushing aggressively in further with his own body....I thought that was a good move. But after a few unsuccessful attempts....he could not move anywhere. And looked around with no space to put his bike down. :D
